Child Development

Is it normal if my child is not talking yet?

The development of speech varies from child in child. Some children speak as early as 18 months, and some take a little more time. If the child is not getting speech by around 18-24 months, or you have any other concerns about their communication, you should consult a pediatrician or a speech therepist. 

Children normally start recognizing colors by the age of 2, but it is a step-by-step process. It develops through daily routine activities, play, and repeating different colors to the child. Its absolutly normal if the child is taking time to remember colors name. 

First of all, never compare your child’s growth to that of other children. Every child grows at their own pace. If you see a difference in reaching milestones, it is quite normal to some extent; you should focus on your child’s overall progress. If you observe long delays or any other concerns, consult your pediatrician or seek professional guidance.

Most children start framing small sentences by the age of 3, but again, it varies in every child. Some children take time to develop their vocabulary. Spend time with them talking and help them frame sentences. But if it concerns you and takes more time than usual, consider seeking help from a professional.

How can I be a more patient parent?

Responding with patience helps kids learn big emotions. Take a breath, and respond with patience instead of reacting with anger. Patience doesnt comes overnight, it develops with awareness and practice. 

When kids are learning to handle emotions like hunger, tiredness, and frustration. When they are not able to express themselves, it leads to frustration and anger, and that is what we call a tantrum.

Not always, if the child is throwing a tantrum just to seek attention, it can be ignored a little. But emotional tantrums must be addressed as a priority. 

Do not react with anger; gently block the behavior, and help them regulate. Set a boundary and rules that are non negotiable.

Not at all, tantrums are very normal. It reflects a developing emotional regulation. It never means you are a bad parent or the kid is spoiled.

Toddler & Preschool 

How much sleep does a toddler need?

In a 24-hour-long day, a toddler needs around 11-14 hours of sleep. It may vary on the basis of age and activity levels.

By offering a balanced diet, maintain a regular meal plan considering their food choices. Include their favourite item in one of the meals. Do not force them to eat. Picky eating is not a bad habit; it’s very common among toddlers.

Normally, children begin preschool between 2.5 and 4 years of age. It completely depends on emotional and behavioural readiness. 

Preschool readiness depends on the child’s communication skills, separation anxiety, physical independence, and social interaction. 

Crying while dropping off or separation is called separation anxiety. It is very common as the child is still learning to adjust in new environment.

What is a balanced diet for young children?

A balanced diet for young children includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, proteins, and healthy fats.

Snacks help kids to maintain their energy levels and nutritional intake. Kids have small stomachs and higher energy levels. They need healthy snacks between meals. 

With a balanced diet, consistent routines, limit junk food, and allow children to eat as and when they feel actually hungry. 

When screen time impact child’s sleep, attention, behavior, and physical activities. It should be limited.

A secured environment, acknowledging their emotions, predictable routines, and encouraging open communication gives them emotional wellness.

Learning & Activities

How can I support my child’s learning at home?

Learning at home should be based on simple play based activities. use age apropriate educational activties, it helps them in building language skills.

Worksheets that are designed for child’s developmental stage. It should feel like fun activity not a pressure filled task.

Duration of kids learning activities should be increased gradually from 5-10 minutes to 15-20 minutes depending on intrest and attention.

Yes. Play is the primary way young children learn. It supports social skills, creativity, emotional regulation, motor development, and cognitive growth.

Activities that involve problem-solving, creativity, movement, and interaction are highly beneficial. Examples include puzzles, storytelling, building blocks, pretend play, and sensory activities.
